Maalaus-Talkoot Konttiaukiolla

Lauantaina 7.5. tapahtui Kalasataman konttiaukiolla Aalto Yliopiston Taideteollisen Korkeakoulun opiskelijoiden järjestämät maalaustalkoot. "Konttiasukkaiden" ja kavereiden kanssa maalatiin asfalttia ja uudessa järjestelyssä olevia kontteja. Maalaminen jatkaa ensi viikolla - lisätietoa tulossa! Opiskelijat ovat suunittelleet Part:in yhteistyössä kaikenlaisia kivoja muutoksia aluelle, muun muassa Ilarin asfaltti-maalaukset. Lisää on tulossa!

Busy times at Part for the year 2010 : ). The biggest change was that Tuomas parted Part to start his own office http://tuomassiitonen.fi/ - Part wishes you the best of luck! Tuomas will be participating Part's projects - especially Kalasatama - also in the future as collaborator.

Part has established new office in Helsinginkatu 17, located inside "the most urban 20 meters of street in Helsinki" as it was described by one architecture student. Another one referred to the location as "the most horrible in Finland". Anyway - we like it here. You are more than welcome to visit us, we'll serve you with a nice collection of tea. The tram stops of 8 and 9 are just beside the new office. We also sometimes have cookies.

The best thing about last autumn was Part's 2 new employees, Pekka and Marijke, who was our intern for the autumn. Both of them are great, many thanks to Marijke for the nice work and see you later. The photo above is from Marijke's project with ice lanterns.

Kalasatama Temporary is rolling on and Part is heading even deeper to participatory and community-design waters, more from this little bit later.

Recently Part. has been collaborating with artist Karri Kuoppala on couple of occasions: Forest, a window-installation at Co-prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport, Chicago (top) and art project for the youth of Tapulikaupunki, Helsinki (bottom). The latter was organized by Suburban Project at the Economic and Planning Centre of Helsinki.

Part. and City of Helsinki organized a brunch in connection to the Flow Festival to gather ideas and hopes from the people attending the festival, held next door to Kalasatama in Suvilahti. Johanna and Hella were collecting the ideas, and giving out food tickets in exchange.

We are very happy: Part was selected to be in charge of coordinating public art and temporary uses during the construction of the Kalasatama area of Helsinki. More info here and in Helsingin Sanomat.

Work in progress: preliminary concept for a public art project for "piha 12" in Arabianranta.

Johanna just returned to office after spending 8 days in Baku, Azerbaijan, with 4 wonderful artists (Eva Koch from Denmark, Lotte Konow Lund from Oslo, Anna Líndal from Reykjavik and Monica Larsson from Stockholm) working on a project initiated by Open Society Institute Azerbaijan. The group worked on 5 cultural centers around Baku creating ideas for public art works in co-operation with local communities. Johanna's project is to create 3 public squares around the cultural centers of Qres and Qala. Everything went great thanks to our fantastic guide Gurban, amazing curator Catrin Lundqvist and to the initiator of it all Jahangir Selimkhanov!

Part-flipbook is out now!

We have started a research project on new methods of urban design. It will eventually take form of a course in Helsinki University of Technology and will also be available as a lecture package to those interested. Contact us for details.

Tuomas was appointed by SAFA and Ornamo for the jury of Aalto University Visual Identity contest. More info
